Balanced



Balanced on a scale—

weight is just another number

impacting my life decisions.



My toes grip to avoid any spillage,

my brain tries to levitate my body,

even if it’s just half a pound difference—



lighter than air,

unencumbered by rain clouds

or dark shrouds of mystery.



For hiding in plain sight

reveals disguised atrocities

of our man-made history—



Colder than winter.

winds blow,

chapping licked lips,

bringing elbows to hips,

doubling over from the visceral shivers—

for we’ve been left out to dry

during a blistering blizzard.
